Hello! I’m Dr. Julia Overstreet. I am a Podiatrist in Washington State. I have 25 years of experience with specialties in Wound Care and High Risk Foot Care. My mission now is to share that knowledge and empower Nurses with this specialized knowledge. Nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system. They have always been the foundation of great care!
I have taught evidence based Wound Care for over 20 years. But Nursing interest in foot care has arisen only in the last five or six years. So I am now working to provide sources for education in High Risk Foot Care along with the Wound Care. Healthcare changes now make it almost impossible for Podiatrists to provide routine foot care to our wonderful seniors. It is phenomenal that Nurses are stepping up to fill the gap. Most Nurses were taught never to touch feet! Especially the feet of a diabetic person. I know it takes a lot of courage to break away from that initial indoctrination. But Nurses all over the US and Canada are doing this in huge numbers!
My hope with this blog is to share information and insight to enable the Nurses to fulfill their mission of providing the best possible foot care. I’m glad you’re joining me on this journey. I hope you will tell others who may be interested in providing this wonderful care.
